Hogar Medalla Milagrosa

Since I have been living here in Panamá I have been volunteering at a refuge centre that hosts people migrating through Central America and who find themselves in a situation of physical vulnerability. The centre is located in northern Panamá, close to the Costa Rican border and provides shelter to those who are currently experiencing migration.

This profile of the guests includes those with health conditions of mild to moderate severity, as well as those who require temporary shelter while completing immigration procedures, such as requests for refuge, residence, or voluntary return to their countries of origin.

Medalla Milagrosa provides comprehensive care that includes medical, psychological and educational services. Furthermore, it ensures coverage of essential needs such as food, clothing, and access to communication through internet networks. It also manages advice and personalised case care in collaboration with organisations such as the IOM, UNHCR, UNICEF and the Panamanian National Immigration System, to facilitate and accompany the migration processes of these people.

Our mission is to provide a safe haven and compassion for people migrating who face many challenges and barriers. We defend and promote human dignity, providing a space of understanding and hope for those who seek a better future.

I am fundraising to assist with creating a 'core fund' for the home, so we can: fix the air conditioning unit, purchase more mattresses for the beds, provide improved materials for English classes, support our guests with medication costs and other such necessities.

Any small amount you can give will go so far to help, and I thank you for the bottom of my heart. I know there are so many demands on us at the moment, particularly economically, but if you can find the space to give even the price of a cup of coffee, it would be so appreciated.
