Hockey Harmony

Getting my daily Starbucks drink I noticed a mother walking with three kids down main street today. -14 and the kids looked miserable, the mother carrying two hockey bags. It’s not often I offer assistance to strangers but today I did.
I am writing this today, to the true, compassionate Canadians who strive to look out for one another. For those people who come together to create a sense of community, connection and support in the hardest of times. I am not here to ask you to help, but understand. We all struggle. We all need help sometimes. Sharing this story is more important than a donation. To change our outlook on life. Especially now.
This is a single mother of three hockey kids. Her car recently broke down and the timing belt failed bending all the valves. The vehicle requires a replacement engine. This woman was carrying two hockey bags full of gear for her two oldest kids, as they were on route to morning hockey practice. It was apparent to me that these three kids LOVED hockey and braved the cold weather, walking five blocks to the rink for practice. The third, younger sibling, excited to watch, as her two older siblings attend her practices to watch and support her. I am not a man of emotion but I was overwhelmed by their story. This mother works two jobs and supports three young kids in hockey. Admirable to say the least.
On her behalf I have worked out a deal with the shop where her vehicle is at. They are installing a used engine and covering some of the labour costs to support her. They will release the vehicle to her if she can pay 50% of the bill up front. I however am looking to raise funds to cover the entire bill and get those kids a warm ride to early morning hockey asap.
Be kind to one another. Be Canadian
