Help Gabriel's Family Bring Him Home
Donation protected
We are heartbroken to share that our friend Gabriel Calvo Espinoza passed away on Friday, June 13th.
Gabriel lived and worked in this community for years. Many knew him personally, and even more knew of him — a quiet, familiar face who moved at his own pace and still managed to lift the room just by being there. He was a kind soul, never in a rush, never in a hurry — but always present. Just his presence made a long day feel a little easier, a little more human.
He spent his final years working in kitchens across the city, forming quiet bonds with those around him and leaving behind a warmth we’ll never forget. One of our most vivid memories is Gabriel sitting peacefully with a pint of beer after work, sharing a moment of calm in a busy world.
And though he wasn’t one for telling jokes, this one always reminds us of him — not because he said it, but because it just feels like him:
“Why did the beer go to the bathroom? Because it was feeling a little drafty.”
We are raising funds to help send Gabriel back home to Mexico, so his family can lay him to rest and say goodbye surrounded by love.
All donations will go directly toward:
Transportation and repatriation of Gabriel’s remains
Funeral and burial costs in his home town
Support for his family during this time of loss
We are so grateful for any support you can offer — whether it’s a donation, a share, or a kind word. Thank you for helping us honor Gabriel and ensure he makes it home.
From our hearts,
— The Sake Como Family
