The project, the Love Blooms Here Plaza, will develop a shared space for community gatherings and events, retail opportunities and will house a community museum.
The goal of the Plaza is to create economic opportunities, community cohesion and safety in a neighborhood that has long been systematically disinvested. The Plaza is an innovative collaboration between The Historic Stone Temple Baptist Church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached, the Lawndale Pop Up Spot, a community museum in a shipping container, and Homan Grown L3C a low profit corporation functioning as a social enterprise dedicated to employ local residents in the green industry.
Your contribution will enable Stone Temple Baptist Church to create a fully ADA accessible community space with public art, beautiful landscaping , promoting peaceful family friendly activities and health and well-being. Attractively decorated, artistically modified, and upcycled shipping containers will be used in innovate ways and will also be a model for sustainable energy to promote a fully green area in the heart of North Lawndale.
Funding will allow for the creation of community activities throughout the year where the involvement and interaction of adults and children result in intergenerational fellowship, collaboration, and mutual respect. Some of those activities will include a Farmers Market, a Holiday Market, Sip (tea and coffee) and Paint, Storytelling and Literacy programs, gardening workshops, and mental health day meetings.
