<div>Jamal’s story is one of resilience, redemption, and incredible determination. While incarcerated, he defied the odds, earning a Master’s degree. Now, at 41, he’s ready to take the next steps in his journey. Jamal dreams of earning a PhD in Practical Theology and giving back to the community by working at the Firehouse Community Arts Center in North Lawndale, Chicago—a place that transforms lives just like his.

Empower Jamal Bakr's Path to Restoration

The project, the Love Blooms Here Plaza, will develop a shared space for community gatherings and events, retail opportunities and will house a community museum. <br /><br />The goal of the Plaza is to create economic opportunities, community cohesion and safety in a neighborhood that has long been systematically disinvested. The Plaza is an innovative collaboration between The Historic Stone Temple Baptist Church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached, the Lawndale Pop Up Spot, a community museum in a shipping container, and Homan Grown L3C a low profit corporation functioning as a social enterprise dedicated to employ local residents in the green industry. <br /><br />Your contribution will enable Stone Temple Baptist Church to create a fully ADA accessible community space with public art, beautiful landscaping , promoting peaceful family friendly activities and health and well-being.  Attractively decorated, artistically modified, and upcycled shipping containers will be used in innovate ways and will also be a model for sustainable energy to promote a fully green area in the heart of North Lawndale.  <br /><br />Funding will allow for the creation of community activities throughout the year where the involvement and interaction of adults and children result in intergenerational fellowship, collaboration, and mutual respect.  Some of those activities will include a Farmers Market, a Holiday Market, Sip (tea and coffee)  and Paint, Storytelling and Literacy programs, gardening workshops, and mental health day meetings.  <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/55545402_161668239684179_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="55545402_161668239684179_r.jpeg" /><br /><br />We are excited for this Plaza to be built with your help. <br /><br />When we are up and running, as a contributor, please feel free to come by for a free cup of coffee and some flower seeds as a token of our appreciation. We are celebrating the life of Pastor Victor Rodriguez, who unexpectedly passed away on February 11th.  Pastor Victor was a devoted husband, loving father, and committed community leader. He lived his life full of passion and a love for others – touching countless lives not only in the Little Village community but throughout greater Chicago. His life was dedicated to serving those in need, always giving generously of his time, energy, money, and basically everything that he had, Pastor Victor will be remembered by his love for others. And as his passing brings us heartache and sadness, we want to honor his life’s work and find solace in all the joy he felt and shared with the people closest to him.  <br /><br />Many have inquired about ways to give back in honor of a man who gave so much, so we've put together this GoFundMe.  All funds will go to help address funeral and medical expenses. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Magda Rodriguez and two sons Isahi Rodriguez (16) and Victor Rodriguez (20).  All additional funds will go to support the family.<br /><br />If you would like to be in attendance:<br /><br />At La Villita Community Church<br />2300 S.
