All we need is 100 people to donate $200

Here's More about Jamal:

Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is ask for help. But for Jamal Bakr, who has spent 23 years in prison, help has been the cornerstone of his survival—and now, it’s the foundation for his success.

Jamal’s story is one of resilience, redemption, and incredible determination. While incarcerated, he defied the odds, earning a Master’s degree. Now, at 41, he’s ready to take the next steps in his journey. Jamal dreams of earning a PhD in Practical Theology and giving back to the community by working at the Firehouse Community Arts Center in North Lawndale, Chicago—a place that transforms lives just like his.

But Jamal can’t do it alone. He needs our help to overcome the practical challenges of reintegration. From securing reliable transportation to work, to purchasing clothes, and covering education expenses, every bit of support will help him reach his goals.

Jamal’s story is nothing short of inspiring. Once a teenager entrenched in gang culture, he’s now a man determined to pull young people out of those same trenches and show them their untapped potential. Jamal believes that opportunities unlock greatness, and with the love and support of a caring community, the impossible becomes possible.

Here’s how you can help Jamal on his journey:

- Provide Transportation: Help Jamal get his first car so he can travel to work and school.

- Support His Education: Contribute to covering tuition and related costs for his PhD.

- Empower His Transition: Help him purchase work and school clothes to build his professional life.

Your support is more than just a contribution—it’s an investment in Jamal’s future and the countless lives he’ll impact along the way. Together, we can prove that second chances aren’t just possible—they’re powerful.

Let’s stand with Jamal and help him achieve his dreams. With our support and God’s guidance, we can help him unlock his full potential and create a ripple effect of hope and transformation.

Will you join us in supporting Jamal’s journey? Every little bit helps, and together, we can make a world of difference.

Empower Jamal Bakr's Path to Restoration

The project, the Love Blooms Here Plaza, will develop a shared space for community gatherings and events, retail opportunities and will house a community museum.

The goal of the Plaza is to create economic opportunities, community cohesion and safety in a neighborhood that has long been systematically disinvested. The Plaza is an innovative collaboration between The Historic Stone Temple Baptist Church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached, the Lawndale Pop Up Spot, a community museum in a shipping container, and Homan Grown L3C a low profit corporation functioning as a social enterprise dedicated to employ local residents in the green industry.

Your contribution will enable Stone Temple Baptist Church to create a fully ADA accessible community space with public art, beautiful landscaping , promoting peaceful family friendly activities and health and well-being. Attractively decorated, artistically modified, and upcycled shipping containers will be used in innovate ways and will also be a model for sustainable energy to promote a fully green area in the heart of North Lawndale.

Funding will allow for the creation of community activities throughout the year where the involvement and interaction of adults and children result in intergenerational fellowship, collaboration, and mutual respect. Some of those activities will include a Farmers Market, a Holiday Market, Sip (tea and coffee) and Paint, Storytelling and Literacy programs, gardening workshops, and mental health day meetings.

We are excited for this Plaza to be built with your help.

When we are up and running, as a contributor, please feel free to come by for a free cup of coffee and some flower seeds as a token of our appreciation. Thank you in advance for your generous. Peace and Blessings.

We are celebrating the life of Pastor Victor Rodriguez, who unexpectedly passed away on February 11th. Pastor Victor was a devoted husband, loving father, and committed community leader. He lived his life full of passion and a love for others – touching countless lives not only in the Little Village community but throughout greater Chicago. His life was dedicated to serving those in need, always giving generously of his time, energy, money, and basically everything that he had, Pastor Victor will be remembered by his love for others. And as his passing brings us heartache and sadness, we want to honor his life’s work and find solace in all the joy he felt and shared with the people closest to him.

Many have inquired about ways to give back in honor of a man who gave so much, so we've put together this GoFundMe. All funds will go to help address funeral and medical expenses. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Magda Rodriguez and two sons Isahi Rodriguez (16) and Victor Rodriguez (20). All additional funds will go to support the family.

If you would like to be in attendance:

At La Villita Community Church
2300 S. Millard Ave

Friday, February 15th
2:00 - 7:00 PM will be visitation
7:00 - 8:30 PM will be service/community sharing.

Sunday, February 17th
10:00 AM will be a time for fellowship and celebration.

It was Pastor’s wish that we remember him not by wearing Black or being sad, but wearing White and celebrating the work we did together and the seeds that helped plant.

Please refrain from wearing black or dark colors
