Hope for Hattie

On October 25th at 1:38 in the afternoon Bryttani and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl into the world. It was a long and traumatic delivery, but after a long, almost 41 weeks we finally met our baby girl. Hattie was able to be with us for just a few short hours before she went to the NICU at Community Hospital in Anderson. After almost 48 hours the doctors knew something was going on but were unsure what exactly that was. Hattie's episodes were more than Community Anderson was equipped for so we were transferred to Community North in Indianapolis early in the morning. After 12 hours at Community North, the neurologist told my wife and I that they had done all that they were able to do and they were referring us to Riley Children's hospital NICU downtown Indianapolis. After arriving at Riley, we were told that Hattie had been having seizures most likely from a traumatic birth. Hattie has been at Riley since October 27th and has progressed immensely, but there is still a long way to go. We met with the head neurologist here at Riley where we were informed that Hattie has moderate to severe brain damage due to lack of oxygen to her brain during the delivery process. The damage she has endured is most likely to affect her motor skills in her arms and legs. We are very hopeful that she is able to overcome these obstacles through therapies, but only time will tell. Before Hattie will be able to come home, we have to control her seizures, get her off her ventilator and work on her feeding. These three milestones seem within reach but in reality will take time. We appreciate all the love and support that we have received for Hattie. We ask for continued prayers as we continue working on bringing our baby girl.
