Aims of the Q-ship Society CIC

The Q-ship Society CIC (Company Number: 15963105) was established to preserve and protect the historic First World War sloop HMS Saxifrage (1918), later known as HMS President. Our mission is centred on three core aims:

1. Move

Our first objective is to secure ownership of the vessel from her current custodians. Once ownership has been transferred, the Society will arrange and fund the safe towage of the ship from the docks to a suitable permanent berth.

2. Moor

The Society will then be responsible for establishing and maintaining a permanent mooring for the vessel. As a Community Interest Company dedicated to preserving one of the last three surviving First World War warships, we hope to secure a sympathetic long-term berth at a reduced rate to support this nationally significant heritage project.

3. Restore

Restoration work will begin as soon as access to the vessel is possible. Our aim is to restore HMS Saxifrage as closely as possible to her original First World War configuration while retaining carefully selected features that tell the story of her later service with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as HMS President. Once restored, the ship will become a museum dedicated to the history of Q-ships, German U-boats, and the Battle of the Atlantic during the First World War, ensuring that this important chapter of naval history is preserved for future generations.

Supporting the Mission

The Q-ship Society CIC is currently raising funds to keep the Community Interest Company operating while continuing the campaign to secure and preserve HMS President. Donations also help cover the Society’s day-to-day running costs, support ongoing research and public engagement, and contribute towards the eventual relocation, mooring, and restoration of the vessel.

Every contribution brings us one step closer to safeguarding one of Britain’s most important surviving First World War warships and creating a permanent museum dedicated to the history of Q-ships and anti-submarine warfare.
