Hi everyone. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this crazy time. Through this message, I am hoping to raise awareness and support for a very important cause of mine.
As some of you might know, this past winter I started my first ever job as a busboy at Kings of Kobe restaurant. If I’m being honest, I was terrified at first. Not only was I going to be the youngest worker there, but I didn’t really have much experience table wiping and crumb collecting from home.
However, once I moved past the deer-in-headlights stage, I came to love the job. The cleaning of tables and sweeping of floors was fine and all, but my love for the job came from my fellow employees. I was surprised by how close I became with the servers and bartenders, who couldn’t be more different than me. Even though I was frequently admonished for talking too much on the job, it genuinely felt like I was working with friends.
Last week, due to the city's coronavirus restrictions, I was let go. I immediately thought of my friends at Kings of Kobe who might also be in this situation. The money I was making from the restaurant was not necessary for the stability of my family, and my lay off won’t have a lasting impact on the quality of my life. However, this is not the same reality for the employees with whom I've become so close. As I mentioned before, they all come from very different backgrounds than mine, and their lives and the well-being of their kids are dependent on their jobs.
In order to continue operating and help out where they can, Kings of Kobe has been supporting a project called American Meals for American Heroes, through which they are making and giving meals to those fighting Covid-19 on the frontline. With your help, we can support the policemen, the firefighters, and the hospital workers in the work they are doing for our country. Plus, we can help my former co-workers and their families who are, like millions of others, trying to survive this crisis. Don't forget, if you're in the city still, take out and delivery are currently available from Kings of Kobe, and trust me, they make a mean burger.
