Help us find out the truth about what happened to Lowe

We are the parents of Lowe Engström, who, according to Thai authorities, is said to have died in Bangkok after falling from his hotel Lebua at State Tower, room on the 56th floor at 2:30 a.m. on October 11, 2024.

But there are serious contradictions and unanswered questions surrounding his presumed death – so many that we cannot move forward until we know what really happened.

Swedish and Thai police have closed their preliminary investigation into murder, citing that a crime is ruled out. We and our lawyer believe that there are so many major flaws in both investigations that we must continue to seek more answers and uncover more facts.

Update 250821

We have now received confirmation from Thai police that the body was found on the east side of the hotel. Through our own investigations and information from the hotel, we have determined that Lowe’s room was on the west side of the hotel – i.e., completely on the opposite side of the building.

This means that the police’s claims that Lowe fell from his balcony are not true. It also means that their statements about him not appearing on surveillance footage after 09:17 in the morning and their identification through fingerprints can be strongly questioned.

Our lawyers on-site have visited the hotel but were denied access both to enter and to obtain information such as keycard logs, etc.

The body identified as Lowe does not match in several crucial respects:

Height in the autopsy report: 168 cm – Lowe was 175 cm

The body is described as “chubby” – Lowe was athletic

Information about his tattoo (a smiley on his thigh) is completely missing from the autopsy report

The clothes on the body (a suit) do not match what we know he owned

The identification:

Identification was only done via fingerprints and with a Thai method (STM-07) that is not internationally approved, i.e., it is not legally reliable

There is also a lack of important documentation on how Thai police conducted the fingerprint identification and what material they used

Swedish police refused to compare dental records or DNA despite many unclear circumstances around the death (e.g., the body was unrecognizable)

Condition of the body:

The body was buried in Thailand after 4 days without us or any Swedish authority being informed or giving approval

The body was cremated in Sweden before the funeral because it would not have been possible to hold a coffin funeral with a decomposed and odorous body

As relatives, we were advised against and never allowed to see the body due to its poor condition

Lack of evidence and documentation:

Surveillance footage has not been handed over in full to Swedish police – only a few still images from the hotel elevator and corridor showing him moving toward his room

No footage or documentation proves that he did not leave or remained in the room until the supposed time of the accident

The autopsy report lacks descriptions of many crucial details such as injuries, photographic documentation, or detailed descriptions of the clothing (brand, size, etc.)

Hotel receipts state that there were two guests checked into his room. Who the second person was has not been investigated

There is no documented link between the body and Lowe’s hotel room. For example, the balcony door was closed, and the hotel states they do not unlock them, with no documentation of forced entry

Digital traces:

Lowe’s Messenger was active for 5 hours the same day after the stated time of death, and his Snapscore increased during the following weekend. According to Meta, there is no delay in updates

Lowe’s old phone is missing and has not been searched for, despite us having the IMEI number

Neither call records nor cell tower data were extracted in Thailand to pinpoint his exact location

Swedish police have not accessed his phone or computer

Some strange facts:

In the Thai police report, the location of the body is described in four different places

No exact map marking or coordinates were provided

Lowe kept his trip to Thailand a secret from everyone

The hotel he stayed at (Lebua State Tower) is one of the most luxurious in Bangkok

There are many gaps in the timeline, factual errors in the Thai police investigation, and contradictions between Swedish and Thai documentation. According to our lawyer, who has reviewed the case initially, it cannot be ruled out that the wrong body was sent back to Sweden – or that Lowe may still be alive.

Therefore, we must have clarity.

Since Swedish police have closed the investigation, we need to uncover more facts and evidence for them to possibly reopen it. We therefore require professional help from a Thai law firm to conduct a more thorough investigation, perform a technical analysis of mobile data, and examine traces on-site in Thailand. This includes:

Confirming the identity of the buried body

Investigating the sequence of events before and after the alleged death

Obtaining evidence of what really happened

How the money will be used

Our goal is to raise SEK 150,000.

This covers the following:

SEK 100,000 – Legal costs for a Thai law firm (including review of autopsy, police reports, surveillance material, contact with authorities)

SEK 50,000 – Travel to Thailand, technical analysis of phone, computer, chat logs, etc., and other expenses

We are doing this to seek the truth – not to speculate. We must be able to look our children and ourselves in the eye and know that we did everything we could.

Men det finns allvarliga motsägelser och obesvarade frågor kring hans befarade död – så många att vi inte kan gå vidare förrän vi vet vad som verkligen hände.

Svensk och Thailändsk polis har avslutat sin förundersökning om mord, med hänvisning till att man utesluter brott. Vi och vår advokat anser att det är så många och stora brister i bägge utredningarna att vi måste gå vidare för att söka mer svar och få fram mer fakta.

Uppdatering 250821

Vi har nu fått bekräftat av Thailändsk polis att kroppen hittades på hotellets östra sida. Vi har genom egna undersökningar och uppgifter från hotellet kommit fram till att Lowes rum var på den västra sidan av hotellet. Dvs helt på motsatt sida av byggnaden.

Det innebär att polisens uppgifter om att Lowe ramlat från hans balkong inte stämmer och då innebär det också att uppgifterna om att han inte synts på någon övervakningsfilm efter 09.17 på morgonen och att deras identifiering via fingeravtryck kan starkt ifrågasättas.

Våra advokater på plats har varit på plats på hotellet men nekats tillträde till att gå in och även att få ut information om tex nyckelloggar etc

Det finns många luckor i tidslinjen, faktafel i den thailändska polisutredningen och motsägelser mellan svensk och thailändsk dokumentation. Enligt vår advokat som sett på ärendet i en första omgång, kan man inte helt utesluta att det är fel kropp som skickats hem till Sverige – eller att Lowe fortfarande är i livet.

Därför måste vi få klarhet

Eftersom svensk polis lagt ned förundersökningen behöver vi får fram mer fakta och bevis för att de eventuellt ska kunna återuppta den. Vi behöver därför professionell hjälp av en thailändsk advokatbyrå för att få till en grundligare utredning, teknisk analys av mobildata, samt resurser för att undersöka spår på plats i Thailand.
