Hire an intern to support arrested BLM protesters

The jail support team is exhausted after 6 weeks of protests. Help us hire an intern to coordinate the crucial ongoing work!
Since the BLM protests began in May, the Atlanta jail support team has been working non-stop to help all 700+ arrestees. Finding them, taking calls, bailing them out, meeting them outside the jail, connecting them with lawyers and resources, helping those denied bail, and supporting throughout court cases.
It has been a tremendous amount of work and everyone is strained and burning out. But it is crucial that we continue.
One approach has been a lifesaver: a temporary internship to allow a team member to devote the time and still pay bills: $15 an hour, 20 hours a week for 6 weeks. This dedicated time allows the intern to provide leadership and organization for the whole team. We had an internship through a generous donation from partner groups. But our previous intern’s term is coming to an end; we are looking to hire a new intern to pick up where she left off.
Kali has been a jail support team member since 2017 and a vital part of the current effort since the beginning. The money would allow her to devote time she otherwise could not.
Her goals and duties for this internship would include:
- Coordinating the efforts of the jail support team - Ensuring that we are contacting arrestees and connecting them with the resources they need.
- Fighting burnout among the group and identifying efforts that have too few volunteers and recruiting more.
- Keeping track of tasks that need to be done and finding volunteers to address them.
- Arranging meetings with the whole group and with leaders of each initiative.
- Meeting 4 times a week with the coordinator of the internship to report back on her progress and set goals.
Any funds raised in excess of what we need for this goal will go to extend the time of the internship, or to the jail support team to be used for ongoing anti-repression efforts.
