The mission of the West Tennessee Haiti Partnership is to strengthen and support St. Vincent’s Center for Handicapped Children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The WTHP strives to maintain a high level of mutual respect and collaboration in the relationships we build and grow at St. Vincent's. They send teams twice a year to administer medical care to the students and staff and also partner with other organizations to improve the school’s educational quality and financial sustainability.
WTHP has asked me to assist their project by facilitating communication in French and in American Sign Language- the two predominant languages of the area. I happen to be able to communicate in both of those languages, and would very much like to join WTHP's team to provide medical care and sustainability to the children of St. Vincent's.
Much of the reason that I learned French was to be able to go to impoverished African countries and volunteer to help improve the lives of the people living there. When I found out about WTHP, I was thrilled at the opportunity to live out a life dream.
