My name is Sean Im a 17yr old student, I travelled out to Tanzania last year to do community work as part of TY
The trip made such an impact to me because I got to see first hand how our fundraising efforts were used and how far the money raised went.
We bought & delivered food for a full year to a primary school.
We fundraised money for made to measure wheelchairs for children locked away in darkness and got to meet recipients of said wheelchairs, which was a particularly moving experience for my classmates and I. This showed me how rewarding it can be working with an NGO.
We brought 340 children on their very first day out swimming and created a surprise Christmas party where we wrapped over 350 gifts for children who never had a Christmas. Those memories and the trip had such a positive effect and changed my perspective on many things and pushed me to return.
I will be going back this coming August, this time to climb Kilimanjaro on my 18th birthday to raise funds for the Teretta Foundation, an Irish Tanzanian NGO set up with the 2 ladies, Lenore and Teddy, who we did the trip with last year. Teretta was only an idea when I was there, so watching it continuously develop through fundraising and hard work is quite amazing.
My Dad was so moved by my experience he even travelled out to help out last year to do community work with Teretta who provide accommodation, education, healthcare and a chance for a child to just be a child.
This foundation is very close to our hearts as we get to witness first hand how every euro helps. Money raised in August will help us to build a classroom for those waiting - many at risk children whose only option is to work from the age of 5 or who are destined for child marriage.
The foundation has helped change the lives of 50 children and aims to change as many as possible.
Any donations are appreciated, thank you
