My mom and I are embarking on an incredible journey (Dec 5-9) to celebrate two significant milestones in our lives - my mom’s 70th birthday and my 40th birthday. We have chosen to commemorate these special occasions by undertaking a 5-day backpacking trek in the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, specifically along the renowned W Trek route in Torres del Paine national park, Chile.
We are excited to make amazing memories together but we wanted to do something a little more. Giving back has always been an important part of both of our lives and we want to use this opportunity to give back to our community as well. With this in mind, we would like to complete this trip not only for ourselves but a local charity. We are going match our steps on the trail by fundraising for Unite Oregon , a statewide racial and social justice nonprofit working to eliminate systemic inequities and fight for a more just and equitable society.
Unite Oregon represents the merger of two strong organizations – Center for Intercultural Organizing (CIO) and Oregon Action (OA) – who together have decades of experience organizing immigrants, refugees, people of color, and low-income Oregonians to address racial and economic disparities and improve quality of life in our state.
Both my Mom and I were born and grew up in the Portland area, we have a strong connection to Oregon, and we believe in the work that Unite Oregon does… Empowering communities that are often overlooked by those in power, striving for an Oregon that is safe, prosperous, and healthy for ALL!

A little bit more about the W Trek:
The W Trek is a spectacular route that takes hikers through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Patagonian National Park. This 100 km/62 miles linear trek will take us 5 days to complete. We will be staying in mountain hostels each night but backpacking all of our belongings. The highest point of our trek will be Mirador Las Torres, standing tall at 900m/2952ft3.
