Hi, my name is Kai, and I'm 8 years old Beaver scout from 26 Galway Kilcoona Group.
Please support me as I'm lacing up my hiking boots and on 23rd of August I am climbing on Mweelrea Mountain to gain a badge and raise funds for my Scout Group. Your participation helps us support our scout group and make a meaningful impact on our local community.
Your support will help group pay for essential items like camping gear, transportation, and program materials, which often go beyond the standard membership fees. Also, will enhance and expand scouting programs, ensuring that more young people can benefit from the valuable experiences offered.
To help my group, I decided to take on an exciting challenge — climbing Mweelrea, the highest mountain in Connacht, with my dad, as part of earning a Special Interest Badge.
These badges are designed to help Scouts explore their passions, set personal goals, and develop new skills through hands-on experiences. They encourage self-motivation and commitment, allowing Scouts to choose areas they’re interested in—like adventure skills, the environment, or personal development—and work towards a meaningful achievement.
Mweelrea is demanding climb that will test my fitness, planning, and resilience, but it's also a chance to connect with nature, grow in confidence, and celebrate the spirit of Scouting. This journey is more than just reaching the top—it's about pushing boundaries, learning along the way, and earning recognition for his effort and dedication.
Mweelrea is a mountain on the Atlantic coast of County Mayo, Ireland. Rising to 814 metres (2,671 ft), it is the highest mountain in Connacht, and is noted for its southeastern cliff-lined corries, and its views. Mweelrea overlooks Killary Harbour and is at the heart of a "horseshoe-shaped" massif that includes the peaks of Ben Lugmore and Ben Bury.
It’s not simply “raising money” – it’s about creating the resources and relationships needed to make a lasting difference in the lives of our scouts. Without it, most of non-profits simply cannot achieve the goals they’ve set out to accomplish.
