High-needs childcare costs for single mom

Desiree is a rockstar single mom who goes to extreme and unfair lengths to give her son, Atticus an incredibly happy life. Atticus is disabled and regular childcare settings are not suitable for his needs.

High-needs childcare costs $5120.00 per month and FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) typically provides funding to cover this cost as it is out-of-budget for most families. Desiree began the process of applying (diagnoses FSCD will accept, referrals, etc) and preparing for FSCD in 2020, and was finally able to officially request an intake interview in April 2022. The waitlist for an intake interview is at least 6 months long. She has yet to hear from them.

Desiree has exhausted every other possible avenue of support. As of Aug 1st, she will not have adequate childcare for her son. This puts them both at incredible risk of losing their only source of income & stability.

Luckily, Desiree has found someone who is willing and qualified to provide 1:1 care for Atticus for the next month. This gofundme is to raise the monetary requirements to pay them a living wage for 160+ hours of full time, high-needs childcare. Desiree has been fighting this battle for a long time, and she deserves the most minor of breaks.

Desiree has no natural supports & comes from a challenging upbringing in the CFS system. She has been working tirelessly and has put in insurmountable effort to break cycles of intergenerational trauma and build a good life her for her and her son.

I, Laura, can advocate for this. I have known Desiree for a few years now. Rarely does she speak about anything other than celebrating Atticus or her latest attempt at accessing him the support he needs and deserves. Honestly? I get it. That kid is absolutely perfect.
