My wonderful kids, Chelsea and her husband, Nick like all new parents, were 26 weeks into the pregnancy of their baby, Charlie Christina, excited for her birth in the end of August. Unfortunately, due to a severe case of preeclampsia, Chelsea's life was in danger and Charlie entered the world on May 25th at 1 1/2 lbs.
While a beautiful little girl, there are a lot of special needs that are not associated with a full term birth. Aside from all of the emotional and physical demands placed on them, Nick and Chelsea are going to have to pay for supplemental medical expenses and additional expenses that are not covered by medical insurance like diapers, special formula, and unique therapies while in the hospital and then they will need special equipment and help for their home nursery (heart and respiratory monitor, feeding tubes and feeding pump, oxygen tanks and a sensory pad that can tell is she stops breathing and vibrates her to remind her to start breathing) to name a few.
Plus, in this case, it is not just Charlie. Chelsea’s medical issues will have additional expenses, and while Chelsea is starting to make a slow recovery, every little bit counts to cover medical bills and special items that we can't even predict.
And most importantly, we need Nick to not have to worry about bills piling up because he needs to focus on the two most important people in his life right now.
While they are blessed with a wonderful family to provide emotional support and extra hands, as uncomfortable as this is for me, I am asking for anyone with a generous heart and a few dollars to spare to help them through this difficult time. If you live in the St. Louis area where they are, your time can be as valuable as money so if you have a little time to help run an errand for them, it would be most appreciated.
Those of you who know me, know that one of my main philosophies in life is to pay it forward, and now I am going to ask those of you who can, to please do the same. Please give my precious daughter and granddaughter the opportunity to both live a long and healthy life. You will forever have my gratitude and I will be there when you need me.
