Connemara Therapeutic Riding -Building a new arena
Connemara Therapeutic Riding was founded in 2015 by a collaboration of community groups, providing an innovative and effective service in a remote, rural area in the west of Ireland. Therapeutic Riding has enriched the lives of those who use our service and their families.
Therapeutic Riding is an equine assisted activity, which can be effective in improving balance, co-ordination, emotional control, self-confidence and self-esteem. It provides an intense, multi-sensory experience, developing a broad range of skills for the user. Therapeutic Riding benefits people of all ages with a range of conditions including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, learning disabilities, autism, Down syndrome, mental health challenges, acquired brain injury and sensory impairments.
We have worked hard to provide our services at an affordable price to the community and rely heavily on grants, fundraising efforts and the generosity of the local community to operate.
We are currently operating from a temporary location and at a reduced capacity while work is underway for our new arena to be built. We urgently require funds to get the new location up and running and to provide our essential service to the community. Local families are in great need of our service to be available again and, with the schools returning soon, we hope to reach other children and families that would benefit from therapeutic riding.
Right now, our priorities are to build an accessible arena and also a sensory room for our clients. We urgently require funding to help get these fully operational as soon as possible for our clients. Our fundraising team are hard at work to generate some funds and any donations from you would be greatly appreciated by our team and the local community.
The recent pandemic has brought uncertainty and stress to us all and, with the schools closed, those with disabilities have really felt the impact. We aim to provide some much-needed therapy and socialisation to our clients and respite for their families. As schools begin to open, CTR can provide the necessary support and help to ease back into the routine of school life, in a fun, outdoor environment. Our important service has been sorely missed in the community and we hope to help those in need, who are making the transition back to school and the challenges they may encounter. With your help and generosity, we can continue to provide our vital service to those in need.
We currently need to raise €30,000 to build the accessible arena and a sensory room. Any donation, big or small, is welcomed.
Below are some words from our clients and how the service we provide impacts them and their families,
‘Connemara Therapeutic Riding is quietly and effectively improving the quality of life of so many people in our beautiful corner of the world. As Eva’s aunt, seeing the joy that this service gives to her has been a huge motivator for me to get involved.’ Laura – an aunt of one of our riders, and a volunteer.
‘My daughter, Roisin, is one of the older clients. She is really looking forward to being back with her friends and using the enhanced facilities.’ Bernice – the mother of one of our riders.
‘As a parent of two boys who regularly take part in Connemara Therapeutic Riding sessions, please donate to this wonderful cause run by a hardworking, knowledgeable and enthusiastic team. It is the only activity which my boys (one with special needs) can do together which increases their social awareness, improves concentration and helps overcome their fears. They learn to take responsibility, take care of themselves and others and it gives them a sense of pride and an appreciation for the simple things in life. We have really missed it in 2020. It has great potential for expanding its facilities and is a brilliant asset to the community. We really hope this service will continue. Thank you.’ A mother to one of our clients.
