Hermes Family Fund

My name is Melanie and I am Veronica’s mom. I created a GoFundMe to help Kyle and Veronica get back on their feet.

Post from Kyle’s Facebook:

The temporary house (aka the hunting cabin) we were in while our new one is being built went down today. I’ve been at a loss for words since I got the call. I went to the store to grab some groceries and V calls from Haygen’s phone. “The backyard is on fire! I got the kids and the animals, Ryan is trying to get it with a hose I called 911.” VFD showed faster than anyone expected and got it stopped but by that time it was already engulfed in heavy flames/smoke

I didn’t realize at the time that had it had taken out 1/4-1/2 of the house as well. The power pole arched right at the line running to the house. Ryan heard it but didn’t realize what exactly happened until the backyard was about half burned. Between wind, and the extremely dry conditions it was far too large for the hose.

Shit like this makes me think. Had they been asleep, or this had occurred late in the evening, I fear the outcome wouldn’t have been the same. V somehow got 6 kids, 3 dogs, and a cat into her car in a matter of seconds. The craziest part is while I was at lowes today I picked up a smoke/carbon monoxide alarm. Not because I suspected anything, but because this is the first time I’ve had a family or kids inside for more than a weekend.

People think I’m insane for moving us to such a small town. Even more so now I’m sure. But what you see in the last photo is what the movers couldn’t fit in the connex. We weren’t sure what to do. After the fire, the entire town showed up. People who didn’t know us outside of “the people building a new house… oh and they got a whole bunch of kids.” They showed up in droves. One guy made a few calls and 1/2 of our stuff is stored in the Mayors enclosed trailer. 1/4 of stuff is in someone’s extra shop. Trucks, trailers, kids, adults, everyone showed up for no other reason than to help. I tried to push it to tomorrow to not inconvenience anyone. I essentially didn’t have a choice. Within a couple hours everything had a spot.

It’s been an overwhelming last few days. We lost a lot. Sadly, most of our “essential” items were inside the house. V spent hours cleaning a dirty hunting cabin to make it feel like home for the kids. All of that, plus many many other material items gone. But again, somehow Supermom got everyone out, including an elusive cat. Even if that did mean punting a few children in the process.

Shout out to Ryan Reed (dude chugged more smoke than Snoop trying to save the house). Kayla Bennett and everyone else who stepped in to help. We really appreciate it.
