The idea of adoption entered our lives in unique and deeply personal ways. Naeem was exposed to adoption early on through families he knew from his church. I, Sarah, encountered adoption firsthand at the start of my professional career while working in the foster care system. Long before we met, these experiences shaped our understanding of family and planted the foundation for what would eventually become a shared calling.
We were married in 2014 with a strong desire to grow our family. During a long and challenging journey with infertility, adoption became an increasingly clear and meaningful path forward, reshaping our vision of how our family might grow.
In 2023, we finalized the adoption of our daughter from Colombia—an experience that forever changed us. Through the process, we gained a deeper understanding of resilience, attachment, and what it means to intentionally create a safe and nurturing environment where a child can heal and thrive.
A year later, we felt ready to grow our family again and began the process of adopting once more from Colombia. We have since completed our home study and are actively pursuing the adoption of a girl up to 12 years old. In international adoption, older children are often considered a “special need” because they typically wait longer to be matched with a permanent family.
We are incredibly grateful to share that we have received an adoption scholarship that fully covers all of our agency fees. This support has been both encouraging and humbling. At this stage, we are fundraising for the remaining in-country expenses and post-adoption fees, with the goal of raising the remaining funds by March 31st.
As we look ahead, we are filled with hope and anticipation. We are eager to welcome our future daughter into our family and to offer her love, stability, and patience as she grows and settles into her new home. Our hope is to provide a space where she feels safe, supported, and empowered to become the young woman she is meant to be.
