Henry Brackenbury's Bat Box Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
My name is Henry Brackenbury, a Life Scout with Troop 13 of Montclair, NJ. I am working toward my Eagle Scout rank. My Eagle project is constructing bat boxes (the equivalent of birdhouses for bats) which will be donated to the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. These bat boxes will give safe roosting spots to bats, particularly those evicted from houses. Bats tend to return to the same roosting spot each year, so evicted bats will move into neighbor’s homes unless a better posting spot (such as a bat box) is set up nearby. Bats are an extremely important species for regulating insect populations and can also help pollinate plants, but they have been threatened by fungal infections and the reduction of their habitat as a result of deforestation. I'd really appreciate your support!
