Help WNC Small Businesses Affected by Hurricane Helene

Hello. This is Jessica at Green River Bee Company. We build beehives, pollinator habitats, and offer custom woodworking for the home and garden.

Thank you to the first responders and to the volunteers who are helping one another to get through these times of crisis and continue to do so.

We are forever grateful for your strength, support and bravery.

Hurricane Helene has also destroyed our retail stores, workshop business and other small businesses within located at 5430 Asheville Hwy. Hendersonville, NC.

We should have taken the July's small flood that occurred by the Exit 44 as a warning sign to what was coming next. We appreciate to those that have donated and volunteered their time towards that floods clean up.

Hurricane Helene came through our area 9.27.24, Friday morning. Days without power and without signal, not knowing what was happening, until we would get bits of the latest news and updates while driving into town picking up any cell signal.

We are extremely sad to see families, friends, people, their homes, the small businesses, severely damaged or completely destroyed. The social media videos of the flooding, landslides, washed out roads, towns, buildings, were so heartbreaking to watch. Our hearts go out to those that lost so much. This is a truly devastating surreal time.

It's been a process and will be. The next steps after our clean up, is that the property will be put up for sale by the landlords. They have lost a lot at their store, Crystal Visions, located next to us. They have given back to our community for many years and supporting small businesses like ours to thrive. We value their friendship and are forever grateful for them to give us entrepreneurs an opportunity to achieve our dreams.

There are other small businesses owners located within that are start ups or already established, relocated to here, they also poured their heart and soul into making their dreams come true, just to loose it all. Our local artisans in our showroom and stores, their one of a kind pieces, gone.

There is no point of return for any of us to stay open here and not realistic to rebuild these businesses in these same buildings, unfortunately. The insurances are still being uncooperative. We have to jump through many hoops for any relief resources for small businesses like us to recoup these losses.

Your donations will be distributed to the small businesses here, and to their families, employees, artisans affected and involved at this small corner of Hendersonville, NC.

We will also distribute the donations that go over our goals to other small businesses and to their families affected in Western North Carolina.

Your donations will help resume theirs and our dreams, replace that has been lost, pushing forward, then to be able to rebuild.

Green River Bee Company is only accepting pre-orders for beehives and pollinator habitats for the spring 2025 or sooner. We have to relocate our small business operations to our bee farm, home office and will be setting up a small workshop for the online sales and woodworks. We do have clients wanting us to keep building after we settled into the new operations. We need repairs, replace equipment, materials and supplies to keep going. Your donation can help us build a shop to keep creating our beehives and to grow our honey bee farm better than ever.

We have just experienced a flood causing damages to our family owned small business on 5430 Asheville Hwy. in Hendersonville, NC. We have been forced to temporarily stop production and limit sales as well as store hours during this hardship. The flooding occurred July 21st 2024 Sunday 9:00pm to 11:00pm. 3” of rain resulted in a foot deep of water throughout our shop and storefronts. We are working our best to get things up and running again.

The surrounding property and business owners mentioned that this was a historic flood, the largest they have seen in the years they have been here.

We updated our business credentials to our insurance policy during the renewal period earlier this year, and due to potential clerical errors from our insurance company and their representatives, they have decided to deny our claim.

Your donation can help towards us to have the ability to keep our business going, replacing the damaged items such as equipment, tools, lumber, office, products, inventory, displays, and the expenses we have incurred thus far.
