Help heal Uganda / after war trauma

Hi Everyone,

On March 4th, I am traveling to Africa where I will spend 30 days volunteering to help rehabilitate Ugandans, affected by war.  I will be working closely with former abductees forced to become child soldiers and women who have been caught in forced sex trade.

Those of you who know me and of my spiritual journey through yoga know of my enduring prayer to reach Africa and all those in need. This prayer was answered in my recent and profoundly inspiring trip to India where I met a beautiful soul- a humanitarian, who worked closely with the UN for many years.  She brought me closer to the unfolding of my dream, leading me to the NGO, "˜Mandala House' (

"Mandala House provides self-directed healing programs to post/conflict populations.  Specifically, we are focused on survivors of sexual & gender-based violence.  Working with trauma-sensitive yoga & breath awareness model in a group dynamic, we teach mind/body awareness tools that our practitioners can take into their lives"”healing themselves & others."

Having learned that a nation deeply traumatized by war was in dire need of healing programs taught through trauma-sensitive yoga "“ as an instructor, I knew that my prayer had been answered and that it was my duty alone to realize it. Two months following this resolve, I am now en route to Uganda to help bring awareness to the many beautiful, but hindered souls of self-love and healing of the mind. I should note however, that this deed is not selfless, as I have granted myself this healing journey as a 30th birthday present- one I very much look forward to.

In addition to working with Mandala House, I will also be giving workshops and teaching yoga to its partner organizations:

Zion (
St. Monica's

I am asking friends and family to support me and join this effort by making a financial donation. (in addition to safety prayers)  Should there be extra money raised after my expenses, I will personally ensure that all additional $ raised will go directly to those in need.

Although Uganda feels far away and the saying "˜out of sight out of mind' often stands true, providing direct aid to those who are too far to ask may likewise help bring peace to oneself.

Any and all goodwill is welcome and very much appreciated.

Thank you

Ever Sincerely,

Jules Sung
