On the morning of December 11th, tragedy struck when my cousin, Yajaira, and her young son, Ivan, were involved in a horrific car accident. At around 8 a.m., their vehicle was struck head-on, leading to devastating injuries for both mother and son.

Yajaira, who was just 30 weeks pregnant, required an emergency delivery of her baby. Thankfully, her baby is stable, but the circumstances remain dire. In addition to the premature delivery, Yajaira also suffered a broken ankle and will need surgery to recover.

However, it is Ivan who has sustained the most severe injuries. The seatbelt caused extreme trauma to his organs, and he has also suffered a broken spine. Ivan is currently in intensive care, and will need several surgeries in the coming weeks to help him on his road to recovery.

This GoFundMe campaign is not to cover medical expenses, but to support Yajaira’s husband, who is now by his family’s side in the hospital. With his entire family needing him, he will not be able to work in the coming weeks — possibly months — as they navigate these trying times.

La mañana del 11 de diciembre, la tragedia tocó a nuestra familia cuando mi prima Yajaira y su hijo Ivan estuvieron involucrados en un terrible accidente automovilístico. Aproximadamente a las 8 de la mañana, su vehículo fue impactado de frente, causando lesiones graves tanto para la madre como para su hijo.

Yajaira, quien tenía solo 30 semanas de embarazo, tuvo que dar a luz de emergencia a su bebé. Gracias a Dios, el bebé se encuentra estable, pero la situación sigue siendo muy difícil. Además del parto prematuro, Yajaira sufrió una fractura en el tobillo y necesitará cirugía para poder recuperarse.

Actualmente, Ivan se encuentra en cuidados intensivos y necesitará varias cirugías importantes en las próximas semanas mientras lucha por su recuperación.
