Help the Leggs Save Their Family Home

Donation protected
The year 2024 was supposed to be a good one for my dear friends, Shelby and Jordan Legg. They had saved for years to be able to build their dream home. They found a local contractor from Vincennes, IN, and since they knew this contractor, they entrusted his company with the build of their dream home. Shelby, Jordan, and the kids were due to move into their forever home in May. However, issues arose with the build of the home pretty early on. An outside inspector was brought in by the Leggs to assess the damage from inclement weather and many build delays. The following are just a few of the issues found in the inspection: the floor plan given to builders was for someone else’s home and wasn’t caught until too late, wrong size trusses, damaged/loose soffit, windows installed incorrectly/left free standing in the frame, standing water in more than five rooms, soaking wet insulation, moldy insulation, and unfortunately much more.

After halting the build to remediate the issues at hand, the Leggs received a letter from the contractor stating their contract was terminated with further communication not an option. They trusted this contractor who took from them and left them with a home that was approximately 40% finished. The bank the construction loan has come from is a national bank, and even though they too lost money, they’ve given Shelby and Jordan till February to make the home livable. Come February, if the home is not deemed livable, the home and the land that they paid for in cash will all be foreclosed on by the bank. Their land is located between Wheatland and Monroe City and they purchased with the intent to live out their lives in the country side.

The Leggs have retained an attorney due to the substantial loss they are looking at. They have been advised to sell everything they own and pour the funds into the home to get it finished before February. Shelby has been posting items for sale on Marketplace in hopes of jump starting the rest of the home build. During the time all of this was taking place, Shelby was experiencing some concerning health issues. After months of questioning every doctor and specialist, Shelby was finally diagnosed with SLE Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. We finally are on the right track to getting her health figured out, however she does get weak easily and her hands get swollen while her whole body turns red and splotchy. Witnessing my friends health slowly deteriorate during what should be a fun and exciting time for her family has pushed me to try and do whatever I can to help. Within the next two months Shelby will be in and out of the hospital a few times for some procedures and more testing. It is crucial that this home is mold free and in good standing condition for Shelby, however I know her first thought is keeping the children safe, not herself.

Friends, family, and some wonderful local community members have come together to help Shelby and Jordan however they can. There is still more to be done like soffit, fascia, siding, doors and floors, cabinets, a driveway, heating and cooling units, appliances, bathrooms, insulation, dry wall, etc. They truly need any and all assistance that anyone can offer. If you have any extra tools laying around, if you’re good with drywall, if you can do some dirt work to level out their once level ground or if you can help in any other way, it would be more than appreciated. I am starting this GoFundMe to hopefully try and help alleviate the remaining costs needed to have this house livable by February 2025.

Any donation at all for the Legg family (Jordan, Shelby, Emily, Gavin and Russ) would be greatly appreciated!

I have attached a very small portion of pictures to show some damage.
