My name is kulabe Esau/Avi I changed Esav to Avi, I am 23 years old,I was born in nasenyi ii village, budaka district near mbale city.

am the Hebrew teacher of Nasenyi Jewish community and also i work as chazzan in the synagogue one of the oldest synagogues in Eastern Uganda. It's a big community with very active and observant members. They eager to learn more about Judaism practices and culture.

I'm writing this on behalf of every member of Nasenyi Jewish community in Mbale Uganda

Being a leader in my community does not let me have a breath of rest but keeps me busy.

We're talking about the coming festival "Rosh Hashanah

In Nasenyi Jewish community, we welcome Rosh Hashanah by lightning candles in the evening at around 6 :30pm. This follows with dressing in bright white clothes which are traditionally known as Kanzu for men and Gomesi for women.

We go on with the arrangements for prayers and rejoice with the Torah.

After the prayers, we all come together for a meal after services . We share religious stories during the meal and walk back home that night as no one sleeps or has a home near the synagogue.

The following morning starts with prayers

After the services, before congregants leave to go home, we have some lunch as so many people starve at their homes after prayers.

People don't have food to eat and so spend all the time looking for money to buy food which is also expensive currently.

So many people get chance to get something to eat at the synagogue before they go home to hustle.

As a community, we have a tendency of contributing towards such meals for high holidays.

the budget will cost at least $4,000.00 from Rosh Hashanah to sukkot

the community has already contributed $1090 on our budget which leaves us with a deficit of $2910 to match our budget.
