My name is JooHyung, but most people know me as Nate.
Over the years, I’ve used whatever platform I’ve been given to shine a light on people who are often overlooked, underappreciated, or simply just trying their best to get by with what life throws at them.
A few weeks ago, I crossed paths with an elderly Korean man named Peter at the Korea vs Mexico game in KTown. I later posted a video asking if anyone knew who he was, and several people reached out to tell me that he’s a local knife and scissor sharpener who has been serving the KTown community for years.
With the help of friendly online strangers, I was able to contact him and meet again.
When I brought him some knives and scissors to sharpen, I learned a little more about his story. Peter is in his 70s, lives alone, and is still working hard every day just to make ends meet. Despite that, he greeted me with a big warm smile, a kind bubbly heart, and genuine gratitude.
When it came time to pay, Peter told me the total was only $20. I gave him $200. He didn’t want to receive it at first but I insisted and he gratefully accepted.
As we talked some more, I learned that Peter’s bag of tools had been stolen in the past. I was also told that he once had a truck that helped him work, but it eventually broke down.
I want to help Peter, but I can’t do it alone.
If Peter’s story speaks to you and you’d like to be part of helping him, any contribution will go directly toward supporting him and improving his quality of life. I’ll do my best to be transparent throughout the process and keep everyone updated on how the funds are being used.
Let’s come together as a community and show Peter that his hard work, kindness, and years of service have not gone unnoticed. 화이팅!
Let’s give Peter the life he deserves- a life with more peace, dignity, and support! ♂️❤️
