Salam Alaikum
Hello everyone,
This Eid, I want to do something truly special , something that will touch hearts and honor the sacrifices of a group of incredibly hardworking young men.
In my city, there’s a group of around 10 Nigerian men working long, grueling hours at a local car wash. Some have been here for years, while others are as young as 18. They work under the scorching sun — often in temperatures soaring to 42 degrees Celsius (over 100°F) 12 hours a day, with no breaks, just to earn a living.
These young men are far from home, chasing hope. Their stories are ones of struggle, sacrifice, and resilience. Many dream of going back home one day, or sending money to loved ones in Nigeria — where 1 British Pound equals over 2,000 Nigerian Naira. That means even the smallest gesture can go a very long way.
This Eid, I want to surprise them. I want them to feel seen. I want them to feel appreciated.
I’m raising funds to give each of these 14 men a cash gift, something to brighten their day and remind them that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Whether they use it to send money back home, save for their dreams, or simply treat themselves — I want it to come from a place of love and community.
No amount is too small. Even £5 or £10 can make a big difference in their lives. If you’ve ever had your car washed by someone under the blazing sun, if you’ve ever been moved by the immigrant story, or if you simply want to make someone smile this Eid — please consider donating.
''We Are Both People
they do it all for home
Not the one here,
but the one an ocean away,
where children wait,
and mothers count time
by money sent through wires
instead of hugs.
they’re just saving.
Just waiting.
One day, they say, they’ll go back.
Home, for good.
It’s a promise held like breath.
And I wonder, quietly:
why is their life theirs,
and mine mine?
I don’t have to send money across oceans.
I don’t work ten-hour days just to keep others alive.
But I have a mother too.
I have family too.
We are both people.
That’s all.
Just people.
Trying to make something last.
Trying to matter.
Trying to love, from wherever we stand.
If you have something to give
even a little
know that it helps someone
who’s already given
so much of themselves
for people they may not see
for years.
I hope that we reach the amount to send them home, let them be with their family and start again.
Let’s show them that kindness travels too.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing.
Eid Mubarak
