Helping neighbours that have been scammed

Hello - so my name's John and I live in Mapperley, Nottingham. My next door neighbours have been scammed out of £900 by a guy who claimed to do fencing. They're an elderly couple who wanted some work doing and this guy knocked on asking them if they wanted a quote. The quote was cheaper than they had received so they went for it.
This guy then contacted them and asked for the money up front to buy materials. They (in good faith) handed over the cash and haven't seen them since... They've contacted him and the police and had nothing.
They're a lovely, quiet elderly couple and they aren't on social media, nor do they know I've set up this page. They would be far too proud to do this for themselves but if we can raise even half the money back for them it will hopefully restore their faith in humanity. They've said to me that they can't get the work done now as they've lost this money they had saved up.
