Hello to those taking some time and reading this message. My name is Andrea, daughter of Jaime and Angela, but most of you may know them as Papo and Janeth Cordero. I have to admit, I'm struggling a bit while writing this message, but I know my purpose and the importance of asking for help when needed.
My parents always worked so hard for my siblings and me. I remember my father always working on cars and getting the rods ready to take us fishing and my mother sitting behind the sewing machine. You name it, she'd make it. From kitchen curtains to wedding dresses. But as they age, things have gotten a bit difficult for both my parents, especially with their health. My dad struggles with his diabetes, is currently blind from one eye and get uncontrollable shakes in his hands. That makes it difficult for him to fish. My mother has lost her balance, fallen to the floor and has had multiple fractures that haven't been able to heal properly because of her osteoporosis and recently our family had a scare due to carbon monoxide poisoning that has led her to use an oxygen tank daily.
My parents are now 65 and 70 they have been married for 44 years and have been living in Rincon, Puerto Rico for over 20+ years. They're only source of income is my dad, he is a licensed fisherman and whenever possible, he will go out catch fish and sell it to the local restaurants. They’ve shared with me that since hurricane Maria, their health has gotten worse, and they have been struggling with mortgage, utility bills, and maintenance on their home. I want to be able to pay a few months in advance in mortgage, pay off all debt they currently have just so it can alleviate the stress that they are going through.
