My Family in Gaza Needs Urgent Help

What a blessing that you have come to this page!

I am Rachel, I live in the United States, and I am writing on behalf of a beautiful family simply trying to survive the cruelty brought upon them.

I help to editorially manage this campaign while another friend of the family receives and forwards the funds to them from the UK, and yet another one from Italy advocates for them: this is indeed a multi-cultural, global effort to help Ali, Lena and their young daughter Gharam get basic human essentials: shelter, food, education and clothing.

This is their situation:

Ali was working as a journalist in Palestine for an Egyptian TV channel. The family traveled to Cairo for Ali’s schooling and graduation at Cairo University. Ali had to return to Rafah to finish up the paperwork necessary for his diploma in September 2023: two weeks before the war began. He was never able to return to them when the crossing from Rafah to Egypt was closed. This left Ali trapped in a war zone with his wife and daughter still in Egypt, with no income.

They are now facing a crisis that is harsher than we can comprehend. Their home has been destroyed. Several members of their extended family have been martyred due to unnecessary violence by the occupation forces. Ali was injured and his father was martyred by an airstrike on the building in which they were living. This left Ali without shelter and forced into a tent.

At seven years old, Gharam has missed out on a year of school. She did not get to be with her father for her birthday. She was not able to celebrate holidays and traditions with her family. Every day, she wonders if she will get to hug her daddy again. All she wants is her family together once more, and we can help make it happen.

Lena is now carrying the responsibility of her family’s livelihood on her shoulders and needs our support. What began as a fundraising campaign to evacuate her husband and what family members she could through the Rafah Crossing has now become a campaign to survive.

The generous donations sent to this campaign are providing Lena and Gharam their essential needs in Egypt, while also keeping Ali and extended family alive through hellish conditions in Gaza.

Lena cannot work in Egypt to cover rent, food, utilities, and Gharam’s education. The cost of living is increasing. Worse yet, the prices of basic essentials in Gaza have exponentially increased due to lack of humanitarian aid and little goods getting into the Gaza Strip. Weather has been harsh from rain and wind, which quickly deteriorates the integrity of their shelter. A single tent for Ali to live in can cost between $800 and $1000. Firewood costs $10 per kilogram to keep warm. Food and clothing have skyrocketed to 800% to 1000% the pre-war cost.

Mi chiamo Rachel, vivo negli Stati Uniti e scrivo a nome di una splendida famiglia che sta semplicemente cercando di sopravvivere alla crudeltà che le è stata inflitta.

Contribuisco alla gestione editoriale di questa campagna, mentre un’altra amica di famiglia riceve e invia loro i fondi dal Regno Unito, e un’altra ancora dall'Italia si batte per far conoscere la loro storia: si tratta davvero di un'iniziativa multiculturale e globale per assicurare ad Ali, Lena e alla piccola Gharam beni di prima necessità come alloggio, cibo, istruzione e vestiti.

Ecco la loro situazione:

Ali lavorava come giornalista in Palestina per un canale televisivo egiziano.

La famiglia si era trasferita in Egitto per gli studi di Ali e la sua laurea all'Università del Cairo. Ali dovette tornare a Rafah per completare le pratiche necessarie per il suo diploma nel settembre 2023: due settimane prima dell'inizio della guerra. Non poté più tornare da loro quando il valico da Rafah all'Egitto fu chiuso. Questo ha lasciato Ali intrappolato in una zona di guerra con la moglie e la figlia ancora in Egitto, tutti senza reddito.

Ora stanno affrontando una crisi più dura di quanto noi possiamo comprendere. La loro casa a Gaza è stata distrutta. Diversi membri della loro famiglia sono stati uccisi a causa della violenza ingiustificata delle forze di occupazione. Ali è rimasto ferito e suo padre è stato ucciso in un attacco aereo contro l'edificio in cui vivevano. Questo ha lasciato Ali senza un riparo, costretto a vivere in una tenda con la madre, anch’essa ferita, e la sorella.

Gharam, 7 anni, non è riuscita a stare con suo padre per il suo compleanno. Non ha potuto celebrare festività e tradizioni con la sua famiglia. Ogni giorno si chiede se potrà riabbracciare il suo papà. Tutto ciò che desidera è che la sua famiglia torni a essere unita, e noi possiamo aiutarla a realizzarlo.

Lena ora si carica sulle spalle la responsabilità del sostentamento della sua famiglia e ha bisogno del nostro sostegno. Quella che è iniziata come una campagna di raccolta fondi per evacuare suo marito e i familiari che poteva attraverso il valico di Rafah è ora diventata una campagna per sopravvivere.

Le generose donazioni inviate a questa campagna stanno fornendo a Lena e Gharam i loro bisogni essenziali in Egitto, e allo stesso tempo stanno mantenendo in vita Ali e la sua famiglia allargata nonostante le condizioni infernali a Gaza.

Lena non può lavorare in Egitto per pagare l'affitto, il cibo, le utenze e l'istruzione di Gharam. Il costo della vita sta aumentando. Peggio ancora, i prezzi dei beni di prima necessità a Gaza sono aumentati esponenzialmente a causa della mancanza di aiuti umanitari e della scarsità di beni che arrivano nella Striscia di Gaza.

Il tempo è stato rigido a causa di pioggia e vento, che hanno rapidamente deteriorato l'integrità del loro rifugio. Una singola tenda in cui vivere per Ali può costare tra gli 800 e i 1000 dollari. La legna da ardere costa 10 dollari al chilo per riscaldarsi. Cibo e vestiario sono aumentati vertiginosamente, arrivando dall'800% al 1000% rispetto al costo prebellico.

Vi chiedo umilmente di trovare nel vostro cuore la forza di aiutare questa famiglia a sopravvivere finché non potranno tornare insieme.
