Helping Mr. Hamin

Hi my name is Jackie Larkins and I would like to introduce you to Mr. Isiah Hamin. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday, born in Louisiana in May of 1941, currently residing in Midtown, Cleveland, Ohio. He lives in boarding house that offers a small living space and a small bedroom, just across the street from the Midtown Tech Hive.

I first met Isiah when I was building out my new café that was located inside the Midtown Tech Hive. At 78 years old, he attended computer classes there. The Midtown Tech Hive is a co-working space under the operations of DigitalC a nonprofit whose mission it is to ensure those who can’t get it, have affordable access to the internet. And once they have it, to ensure they can use it in meaningful and helpful ways.

Mr. Hamin was one such person. At age 78 he signed up for free classes at the Tech Hive to learn how to operate a computer. He took to it like duck to water. Prior to Covid-19, I would see him arriving at the Tech Hive two or three times a week, cane in one hand, books in the other, to complete computer learning courses. In no time he was researching different aspects of his religion, shopping online, learning to speak another language, etc. He became one of the first residents to graduate from the series of computer classes offered by DigitalC in pursuit of their mission.

Mr. Hamin is a man of intelligence, sharp wit, and good old common sense. Talking to him is always a pleasurable experience.. As I got to know him, I became aware that his living situation could use some improvement.

Mr. Hamin has some family locally but most of his family resides in Louisiana. As mentioned, he lives in a local boarding house and has two rooms, a bedroom, and a small living space. The furniture, provided by the landlord, is old and tattered, and not very comfortable.

Mr. Hamin recently suffered a minor stroke. We are so grateful that his recovery was quick with very little aftereffects. The purpose of this Go Fund Me is to purchase a Couch, a Comfortable Chair, a Bedroom Set w/Mattress and some cabinet space for storing. We are attempting to raise $3500 for this purpose.
