HELPING MOTHERS AND CHILDREN

Dear Family, Friends, and Neighbors:
We are high school students seeking your support in helping some women and children in need. On June 13, 2019 we will travel with our high school, The Pingry School, to the US-Mexico border at San Diego and Tijuana to gain a better understanding of the controversy surrounding immigration and border control. We will meet with people on both sides of this issue, including representatives from the US Department of Homeland Security Border Patrol, bi-national clergy, artists, administrators, and pro-migrant advocacy groups. Our goal is to become more responsible global citizens by improving our understanding of economic and social issues shaping attitudes toward migrants, immigration policy, and hemispheric migration.
We will also visit several charity organizations assisting deported individuals, refugees, and asylum seekers. One of the nonprofit organizations we will visit is Centro Madre Asunta (AKA Instituto Madre Asunta) in Tijuana, Mexico, which has been helping women and children for years. Its mission is to practice the philosophy of ‘love thy neighbor as thyself.’ Centro Madre Asunta helps migrant women and children by providing basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing, as well as legal assistance, psychological care, medical assistance, spiritual support, and school supplies.
Our goal is to raise funds to support Centro Madre Asunta in providing essentials for migrants in a desperate situation. Immigration may be a controversial issue, but hopefully we can all agree on helping mothers and children in need.
