Helping Kenyan Subsistence Farmers

Hello! I’m Lorraine, and along with my friends Jesse and Eugine, we’ve established a Farmers Co-Operative in Kenya. I’m based in Canada, while Eugine is in Kenya and Jesse is in the USA.

The farmers we work with are incredibly dedicated, often surviving on less than $40 USD a month, while supporting their families, extended relatives, and orphans.

These farmers primarily engage in subsistence farming, growing just enough food to meet their needs for the year, leaving little to no surplus for sale.

In January 2025, nearly 200 farmers participated in our 'Let's Get Started' workshop, and we quickly realized we lacked the capacity to accommodate everyone in our program.

After conducting household surveys, farm audits, and soil testing, we began developing programs and workshops to equip farmers with the knowledge they need to boost their yields. We are also focused on eliminating the middlemen who siphon off profits from their hard work.

While financial support would be fantastic, we also need volunteers. You can contribute from anywhere in the world, whether it’s through financial assistance, social media outreach, legal advice, or help with running a nonprofit.

At the moment we are trying to put together basic office equipment, software to help with administration, money to buy seed, manure, small tools etc. Really important, most farmers don't have access to water, we are looking at buying rain barrels.

As part of our Outreach Program we are also raising money to acquire birth certificates and tuition fees so that the children of these Farmers can get a start in school while we are working to build them up towards becoming self sustaining.
