HI my name is Holly, and the beautiful lady you see in the photo is my 76 year old AMAZING mom Judy.

I am doing this go fund me for my mom as her health took a sudden and right now and I am doing everything possible to help her as she has helped me in my life and this is the least i could do for her. Here is her story.

In February of 2022 my mom was originally hepatized for stomach issues we thought were originally caused by IBS and when they did a CT scan they seen a shadow on he small intestine area and even did a colonoscopy and endoscopy at the same time to see if they could find what could be causing the shadow. Unfortunately at the time they couldn't and she was discharged. We then attended he Former Family Doctors for an apt and begged for him to send he to a specialist and were very coldly dismissed and we didn't know where else to turn at the time and we went on living but closely monitoring my moms health. Furthermore for next 3 years things seemed fine, but as we were to discover as of January 21rst, 2025 our life, my moms life was going to be tuned upside down. The morning of January 21st, 2025, I went to my moms house to check on her as she had been sick for about 3 weeks at this point at first she thought she may have caught a touch of the flu but when her stomach and started having issues she the related it to possible constipation related to her IBS. I was finally able to convince my mom to go in as this could be something more serious and she agreed and went with me to HSN Sudbury Hospital. We arrived at 9:15 am and they did some blood work from my mom and then we were both sent back into the main waiting room until we got moved to the back which was not until 2 pm where we waited another hour and a half and we finally seen a doctor and their resident to whom we explained my moms symptoms and how it was very similar to three years ago when she was admitted except this time she was not vomiting which we were thankful for but still very concerned. The doctor agreed with our concerns and ordered a CT. The imaging came back and we were shocked to learn that the CT showed what looked to be a MASS near her small intestines and that she had to be admitted to the hospital immediately so they could figure out the best solution for her. My mom and I still reeling from the news decided ok where do we go from here, its then that we we met Doctor Jetta the general surgeon who came to talk to us the next morning and informed us that my mom needed immediate surgery to determine the size of the mass and if it was malignant or not. My mom continued with more testing such as a endoscopy and cystoscopy on the 22nd of January and then we were informed that my moms surgery was set for the next day January 23rd, 2025 around 10-1030 am.

The next morning my mom went in for her surgery where they were able to successfully not only repair a hernia and scarring my mom had but the mass they seen on the CT was complexly removed and thankfully from the looks of things had not spread anywhere else in her body, HOWEVE the vey downside to this is my moms mass was the size of a GRAPEFRUIT, and had been rushed to pathology where we had to wait a few weeks to find out if this was indeed cancer or something else.

My mom was then discharged January 28th and for the next two and half weeks i stayed with her night and day helping her adjust to her new normal for the time being and unfortunately at time of discharge my mother was denied any home care services by CCAC so it was us her and I trying to manage this. On February 4th, 2025 i rushed my mom back to the hospital where they discovered she may have been septic from what we believed to be a infection from her surgical area. Thankfully she was not septic but after sitting i the emergency room for 13 hours ( yes 13 hours) , we seen the ER doctor who then informed us my moms surgeon was on call and he came to see he. It was ten discovered there was indeed a infection as he looked at her surgical area to only realize my 76 year old mother had a gaping wound that was actually open as he surgical site had opened up. That same night her surgeon sat us down and informed us my mom was now referred to the oncology department at the cancer center as her test for the mass came back and it was discovered that their were clear markers of small bowel cancer-small intestine cancer and now we would need to see an oncologist for the next steps my mom would have to take . This came as once again as a shock simply for the fact that all this had happened within a two week time frame therefore it was a lot to process and take in.

On Wednesday February 12th. 2025 we met with my mom's oncologist very sweet lady by the name of Dr. Arteaga who then took the next hour explaining to us that my mom did have cancer and its a stage 3 and that the shadow we seen 3 years prior was most likely the mass starting to grow but noting can ever be 100%. The good news she said is that according to the scans they removed al the tumor and their was no indication of it spreading anywhere else in my moms body. The next step my moms oncologist said is that the best course of action against this type of cancer my mom is facing is that the next part would be or her to do chemotherapy once every two weeks for the next 6 months. The good news she shared with us about the chemotherapy is that the fist one needed to be done at the hospital and after they insert her catheter port in her arm that the other treatments could be done from my moms home and a nurse would come in to change the dressings etc. It was at this point we were also set up with the new program that just started called HOSPITAL TO HOME where its a group of team members, social worker, nurses physiotherapy etc. that would now have my mom on their case file to monitor her closely. They have PSW's but its vey brief an less then an hour they help my mom twice a week on a Tuesday and Friday just to wash up but the nurses come every second day.

I understand this is a very long story and i apologize for that however i think people deserve to know the details when setting something up for someone for a go fund me and my mom always taught me to be honest and upfront a motto i try and live by.

Furthermore since my mom will be having chemo i set up meals on wheels for her along with wheels of hope for transportation for my mom and her appointments.

The main reason i am making the go fund me for my mom is that i am in need a PSW Minimum once a week for a overnight shift of 12 hours to stay with my mom therefore an example of this would be 7 pm to 7 am, especially during the weeks she is getting chemo and if for some reason I'm not able to be there at east i know someone is with her and she is safe and i can sleep at night without having to worry.

As much as I would love for it to be more then once a week I am very grateful for any help i can get. My fiend daughter who graduates nursing school this April her roommate has offered to care for my mom but it does cost 250 for the hos I would need. I looked into other agencies an they are double that and charge 41.50 an hour so close to 500$ so as much as 250$ may not be cheap its much better then the alternative.

My mom has always been a very independent person so having her to be cared for is all very new to her in this manner. My mom has helped me though a lot of my own heath challenges the last one was when i had brain surgery in Toronto on September 12t, 2024 and she stopped her life and plans to take care of he 43 year old daughter . I am thriving because of the care and love my mom gave me during my brain surgery and post op recovery of 5 months, so this is the LEAST i can do for her after all she is done for me . My mom Judy s one of the bravest , strongest and beautiful souls i know. My mom's chemotherapy is set to start March 11th and continue to sometime in August which brings us to 6 month mark.

If you have read this far please know how incredibly grateful i am for each and everyone of you who has read my moms story.

Thank You Sincerely,
Holly ( Judy's daughter)
