Jessica Harvey's story:
We're a Family of 9. We moved to this house to get out of a home with even worse conditions with Landlords that didn't fix anything, either. We moved here with hopes that we could start fresh and make this a home for our family. Only to find out we're in the same situation.
Our landlords were switched with out our knowledge and without any new contracts. They knew of our serious maintenance issues and throughout the entire 3 years of living here someone probably came out and fixed or tended to something 5 times, but the issues weren't fixed properly and they continue to be worsen.
We don't have any heat as our furnace is inoperable. We don't have any hot water, so my family can't wash dishes or bathe properly. We were using the stovetop to warm the water to bathe in, but our stove stopped working, too. However, when the stove did work, we realized there was faulty wiring in the home someqhere because we had to have the knobs turned on in order for the bedroom lights to work. All I could think about is how dangerous this is. The pipes under our sink were loose and now they aren't staying connected at all. If we use our sink, water leaks so heavily it floods under the sink, so we cant use it without causing more damage. With the leaks, the baseboard under the sink has separated and the water drains down into the basement, right on top of the electrical box. Another serious safety hazard. There are several outlets not properly functioning in the kitchen which has led us to lossing food because the refrigerator goes in and out. We can't use the deep freezer, either. Our Bedroom ceiling fell in due to roof leaks that have been there since we've moved in. They attempted to patch it by putting tape across it, but of course it didn't hold. It eventually started to hang and finally caved in and fell. There is little to no insulation in the room, which is why the temperature was never able to be regulated.
I just want what everyone else wants in a home for my family. Shelter. Safety. Warmth. A safe and livable home. Please help us while we deal with this stressful situation.
