Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out on behalf of our darling Jaseta Stevenson, who has been incredibly unwell over the past several weeks.

What initially seemed like a sudden illness has actually been brewing for around six weeks. Jaseta was first diagnosed with bacterial and viral meningitis and is now being treated for autoimmune encephalitis. She is extremely unwell and has been in ICU for almost a week, following transfers from Goulburn to Campbelltown, and now to Liverpool Hospital. Her transfer to Liverpool was a proactive step to ensure she has access to specialist care should her neurological condition deteriorate.

Jaseta has been undergoing intensive treatment, including immunoglobulin therapy, steroids, antibiotics, and ongoing specialist care from multiple subspecialties to ensure she is receiving optimal care without delay. Despite the incredible efforts of her medical team, her body is fighting a very difficult battle. She has been extremely drowsy and unable to communicate much. For an entire week she was unable to speak, and until last night, the only word she had been able to say was “home.” Being appreciative, this was her first word.

We know there is still a long road ahead. There are likely to be several more weeks in ICU, followed by a rehabilitation journey that is still unfolding. While we don’t yet know exactly what that path will look like, we do know that Jaseta will need all the support they can get.
