Hi everyone, my name is Tiana.
As I sit here in the UK watching the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, my heart breaks. I work for the London Ambulance Service as a Emergency Medical Technician helping people in their time of need which is why it’s in my blood to give back where I can. I travel to Jamaica a lot and every time I visit I get “Welcome home” - It’s no longer a home and it’s devastating.
I’ve spent the past week crying while watching videos of people who have lost everything — their homes, their clothes, their children, their livelihoods - EVERYTHING. Jamaica is part of who I am, part of my heritage and it hurts deeply to see the island and people I love suffering so much.
I have family in Jamaica who, thankfully, are safe but currently stuck abroad and unable to return home. I have family who live there and will have to stand strong and support rebuilding Still, I feel helpless being so far away, knowing so many are in desperate need. So I’ve decided I can’t just sit and watch — I have to do something.
Through this GoFundMe, I’m raising funds to buy essential supplies that I will be packing in a barrel and sending directly to help communities that are in need across Jamaica. These include:
* Hygiene products (especially female care items)
* Tinned foods and non-perishables
* Waste bags
* Basic household necessities
* School books for children
* Pens/pencils
* Cleaning products
* Non disposable hardware gloves
* Clothes
And Whatever I can find in my home that they need more than I do.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a real difference — because as we say in Jamaica, “Every Mickle Mek a Muckle.”
I pray for Jamaica, the rest of the Caribbean, and for every family still waiting to hear from their loved ones.
If you’re reading this and wondering how you can help — this is your chance. Your donation will go directly toward providing comfort, hope and practical support for families who have lost everything.
Please donate what you can, share this campaign with others, and stand with Jamaica as we begin to rebuild together. I’m skeptical about donating my money to organisations that I know my country will not receive so this is why I wanted to do it this way.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can bring light back to the island we love.
Tiana
