Help Us Reach Villages in Jamaica Worst Hit by Hurricane Melissa

The situation in Jamaica is dire.

Much of the island is still without water, electricity, or food. Many towns remain cut off, and with impassable roads, aid workers are struggling to reach remote villages where families are in desperate need. For countless people, communication lines are still down — and friends and loved ones remain unreachable.

One of the worst-hit communities is Chester Castle in Westmoreland, which was struck directly by Hurricane Melissa. The village is currently completely uncontactable. We know they will be without water, electricity, and likely without food. Across the island, the reality is the same — families left isolated, homes destroyed, and lives changed forever.

Home is Everything

It’s where we feel safe, where families gather, and where life’s most important memories are made.

But for thousands of families across Jamaica, home is now gone.

Hurricane Melissa — the most destructive storm in Jamaica’s recent history — has left unimaginable devastation in its wake. Homes have been flattened, schools and health centres damaged, businesses wiped out, and livelihoods washed away overnight.

The true scale of the disaster is still unfolding, but what we do know is that people urgently need help — and that rebuilding will take time, compassion, and collective strength.

How We’re Helping

With family and friends on the ground, we are working directly with trusted local charities and community leaders to make sure every donation goes straight to those who need it most — families who’ve lost everything, children whose schools are gone, and small business owners trying to rebuild.

One of the charities we are supporting is Hanover Charities. Based on the north coast of Jamaica, their team is already preparing containers filled with non-perishable food, basic clothing, and hygiene supplies to ship from the USA to Jamaica as quickly as possible. Once these containers arrive, local volunteers will deliver essential supplies to families across Hanover parish and neighbouring communities in western Jamaica.

Beyond immediate relief, Hanover Charities and their partners are committed to long-term rebuilding — restoring schools, health centres, homes, and providing families with the furniture, bedding, and essentials they need to regain stability and dignity.

Our Goal

As a family we aim to raise £100,000 to provide immediate relief and support rebuilding efforts through local, vetted charities like Hanover Charities.
