Hi, my name is chrissy , and I’m reaching out to share a story that’s deeply personal and humbling. My son Ethan is just 22 years old — and recently, he did something truly extraordinary.
Ethan donated one of his kidneys to save my life through the living donor exchange program. Because we weren’t a direct match, he gave his kidney to a stranger — and in return, I received a kidney from someone else’s hero. His bravery and selflessness saved not just my life, but someone else’s too.
What many people don’t see is what it cost him — not emotionally, but practically. He quietly shouldered the burden of missed work, long recovery, fuel costs, food, and temporary accommodation for nearly a month while recovering out of town. Though some of these costs were supposed to be covered, the reality is, they weren’t — and he never told me. I only found out after the fact that it added up to much more than he could manage on his own.
Ethan didn’t ask me or anyone else for help. He didn’t want me to feel guilty. That’s just who he is — strong-willed, independent, and incredibly proud. But no one should have to go into debt or struggle alone for doing something so selfless.
So I’m doing what he wouldn’t: asking for a little help. Not because he’s looking for handouts — but because I believe people would want to support someone who gave so much of himself to save others.
Every little bit helps, and all funds will go directly to helping Ethan cover the financial impact of his recovery: his lost wages, travel, meals, and other out-of-pocket expenses. He would never ask — but I believe he deserves it.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting a young man who quietly became a hero.
With deep gratitude,
Chrissy
