On the evening of December 12th, a tragic and devastating event unfolded—an unexpected house fire swept through the neighborhood, engulfing homes and shattering lives in an instant. Among those caught in this nightmare was Edith Powell, whose home has stood as a beacon of stability and love for over 35 years. In just a few hours, that sanctuary was turned into rubble, deemed unsafe to even enter, forcing Edith and her family to leave behind everything they cherished—memories, belongings, and a lifetime of effort.

The heartbreaking news soon arrived that their home would have to be demolished, leaving them with nothing but loss and uncertainty. Yet, amid the ashes, their gratitude persists—they are grateful to be alive, to have escaped the flames, and now they cling to hope, determined to rebuild from the ground up.

Edith is a woman of unwavering dedication, who has poured over four decades of her life into serving her community. Every August, without fail, she hosts a heartfelt back-to-school treat in Kingston, Jamaica—an event that has touched the lives of over 200 families each year. She selflessly provides school supplies, food, and essentials to children and families in need, embodying compassion, hope, and resilience.
She is the heart of her community, a steadfast pillar of strength and kindness. A humanitarian who put other’s needs at the forefront. Her home was a sanctuary— a warm, welcoming refuge where anyone in need could find comfort and solace. Whether it was sharing a hearty meal, engaging in a heartfelt conversation, or simply finding a quiet moment to reflect, her door was always open, a testament to her boundless compassion and unwavering generosity.
Her story is a powerful testament to her incredible strength and dedication to lifting others up. Now, more than ever, she finds herself in need of support.
