Our baby girl Daniela is a bright little girl, with an iron will and a heart of gold. Yet she has had 9 major surgical procedures in her short 4 years of life. And although we have been able to get rid of her tracheostomy, and gtube we have yet to help her to walk despite 7 orthopedic surgeries. Including a hip and pelvic reconstruction, Achilles release, knee release and tendon release on each one of her ten toes and 2 rounds of serial casting at TX Childrens.
Therefore, In a desperate attempt to prevent a 10th surgery (External Fixation) that would require she have surgically placed rods coming out of her legs and feet for 6 months or more in order to stretch her tendons we drove the 1,100 mínales from Katy, Tx to the University of Iowa. There we found Dr. Morcuende the leading ClubFoot orthopedic specialist in the US in order to get a second opinion.
He is very optimistic about getting her to planther feet so that she may walk and even casted both feet today 09/04/2020.
However, we have to come back next Monday the 14th and stay for 10-12? weeks to Iowa in order to have them changed weekly which we gladly committed to doing in order to prevent the invasive surgery. But now although they offered the Ronald McDonald house at a low cost we don’t know how we are going to make this work from a financial stand point. Meals for 2 and a half months, travel, transportation and copays leaving me no other choice but to ask for help which I find so hard to do, but I am doing anyways because Giving Daniela a real shot at straightening her feet and the opportunity to be able to walk someday soon is well wort it.
