Hello,
My name is Ashraf Abdelaal. I’m 23 years old and I live in Gaza City, Palestine. I study at Al-Quds Open University in Gaza and I’m currently in my final semester, after which I will graduate as a journalist to help share the truth about what’s happening in Palestine.
Before October 7, 2023, I lived with my family in a four-story house. I had a supermarket and a scooter, and my father owned a general contracting and trading company, along with a car. We were a wealthy and happy family. My family is large—10 daughters, 6 sons, and our parents. We were among the happiest people, living in comfort and joy.
But after the war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, everything changed. Our home was bombed and completely destroyed—it became nothing but rubble. My supermarket, which was our source of income, was also reduced to rubble.
We moved to my father’s second apartment, where his company was located, and lived there for more than three months. Then that building was bombed as well, and the car we used to evacuate and move around was also destroyed.
After that, we were left on the streets, with no home to live in at all.
More than two months into the war, we received the heartbreaking news that my sister and her husband were martyred. The grief of their loss was overwhelming.
Before the war, we lived in excellent conditions—happy and fulfilled, never in need of help. In fact, we used to help those in need. But now, we are homeless, devastated, and without any source of income.
My message to anyone with a conscience: please help us. Your support can bring us happiness and help us survive. Be a part of bringing joy back to my family.
Thank you so much for reading my story during the war on Gaza.
