On November 18, 2025 my brother lost his partner of 30 years. They met in 1994 and have been inseparable since. They later married in 2002. Nick had gotten really sick and due to not having insurance, he did not seek treatment. Around the 15th of November, Dee his wife became sick and 3 days later, she passed in her sleep.
On November 19th a large branch from a palm tree fell while my brother was sitting on his porch, hitting his head and causing a 4" gash needing 19 stitches. While at the emergency room he found out he had pneumonia.
While trying to recover, he was struggling to breath and called 911. This call saved his life; he found out around end of October he had a heart attack and the arteries leading to his heart were nearly fully blocked.
On December 3rd he had a triple bypass, the surgeons finding that his heart was more fragile than they had thought, needing to place a temporary pacemaker and balloons to help his heart heal.
The hospital sent him home 3 days later. It was too soon and he wasn't taking care of himself, as this was all too much for him. He became very confused and was not eating or drinking and was rapidly declining. His son in law came to visit and found him very delusional and immediately took him back to the ER. He has been there since December 14th.
Today they are moving him to a skilled nursing home to closely watch him due to the post op delusions. He has had a hard time sleeping and eating and needs to build up his strength and find out why he continues to be confused. All the tests they ran came back normal, so they are unsure of what is causing this. He has good days and bad days. They are unsure if it is possibly early onsets to Alzheimer's. My thoughts are that with him not sleeping too well and not getting enough protein and fluids, this may be what is causing the confusion and delusions. The last few days that I have spoken to him, he sounds really good and more like himself! Let's pray that he is on the road to recovery.
Nick hasn't worked since mid-December and unfortunately although he has been a master mechanic for years at the same family-owned company, they do not offer insurance, sick time or vacation time. He has since applied through the help of the hospital for medi-cal and has applied for disability with the help of his daughter, but meanwhile his bills and rent are falling behind.
If you can find it in your heart to send anything or share this gofundme to help my brother, I would be so appreciative!
