Helping a friend make it to graduation

Most everyone I know has been through some sort of trial or tribulation while working to make it to a goal.  There are certain stresses and hardships that are expected.  When this occurs, it is expected that phone calls can be made and texts sent to family and friends to help manage these barriers and keep you on track.What happens when there is no one to call.  When there is actually no support system to call on.  Thankfully, this is completely foreign to me.  Unfortunately for my friend, it is a reality.  This, combined with additional barriers and responsibilities, is threatening to take away all of the progress and hard work, as well as the promise of a future where she no longer has to rely on any services or case workers.  Graduating truly means freedom for her and her two kids.  She is hard working, responsible, and a fighter.  She is a mother.  The inability to find shift work that allows her to both care forher kids and attend class has left her financially vulnerable.  Our family is working hard to help keep her on track.  We need help.  She graduates in May and the goal is to give her the support she needs to earn her certificate as a community health worker.  This means providing financial support to supplement groceries, keep gas in her car, cover her school supplies, pay her phone bill and small car payment.  This sounds like a lot but in reality it is a relatively small amount per month compared to what I think of when I think of a family’s average monthly expenditures.   So, if you’re interested in helping you’d be making a very big difference in both this family’s present situation, as well as investing in their future.
