Please read all the way to the bottom - the story is set out there. Updates are posted below the story:
I've reduced the payment to £2000 as that is the arrears amount. Anything after donated after that will help her with her moving costs (max raised will be nothing beyond £3000 in total - please do not donate beyond this amount).
Hey everyone,
I’m organising this fundraiser for a friend in dire need and on the verge of becoming homeless. Her story is set out below and I want to help her cover rent arrears caused by difficulties between her landlord and landlady. The rent arrears as well as her landlords being aggressive has led to her being sent an eviction notice. It hasn’t helped that with Coronavirus she cannot move out with her children even though the landlord has already previously smashed in the window of her place which endangers her family. Please can you dig deep and donate and please share amongst your contacts. Her story is set out below:
‘I am single mum with three kids under ten. When my ex husband left I was left to fend independently without any knowledge of how it all worked. My landlord and his wife happened to be separating in the midst of my divorce where his wife then began to claim she owned the private rented accommodation I have lived in for coming up to ten years now. She demanded an increase in rent without providing any tenancy paperwork. I was advised not to make payments without a contract stating the payments due. As time passed the harassment from them continued despite my continual requests for a contract.
Just before lockdown, I was sent an eviction text and later that week they smashed my front window in while me and the kids were out. As a result, I began to seek advice on how to resolve this and was asked to pay the arrears or it would affect me negatively in my claim for social housing due to having an Assured Shorthold Tenancy and being in arrears. I have been sent a section 21 notice which means I have been given a date on which to leave the property, this will go to court first and the eviction proceedings will begin. Given all that has happened, it's not safe for me to stay in the same property once I have covered my arrears.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the option to private rent again due to not having the funds or the affordability according to estate agents. I have a small start up business which would have been handy with helping me with deposit and moving costs, however with the current climate, I cannot work and the benefits I receive cover the costs for us to survive.’

Update: Hey everyone, thank you for your generous donations - my friend is overwhelmed at your kindness and support. Within a few hours, you've all helped us almost reach the target.
The court date for the section 21 (eviction) is set for next month and until then payments will remain with me. I will keep you updated when the payment is transferred and payment is complete in court.
Thank you for your continued support - you are all amazing mA!
