10,000 Special Education Children Need Our Support

Across the United States, 7.5 million children, 15% of all public school students, are in special education, the highest number ever recorded. This number has more than doubled since 1976, driven by factors including increased autism diagnoses, greater awareness, and improved advocacy.

  • 1 in 31 eight-year-olds are identified with autism spectrum disorder.
  • 7.1 million children have ADHD.
  • Nearly 1 in 10 have developmental disabilities or other conditions that impact learning and emotion regulation.

Behind these statistics are real children, each one unique, capable, and deserving of tools that help them focus, learn, and connect.

Our Goal: Empower 10,000 Special Education Students

This year, Niroga Institute is celebrating 20 years of bringing movement-based mindfulness to underserved schools and communities. To mark this milestone, we have one clear goal: raise $200,000 to train 500 Special Education teachers in Dynamic Mindfulness, Niroga’s trauma-informed, research-backed mindfulness program.

For every $400, one SPED teacher receives full training, materials, and support in Dynamic Mindfulness (DMind).

Each trained teacher will bring mindfulness to at least 20 students, creating a direct impact on 10,000 children and a ripple effect that will reach thousands more lives as students bring these tools home to their families and communities, and teachers empower future generations of students and their colleagues in the years ahead.

Why Teachers Are the Key to Change

Teachers are powerful multipliers of impact. When equipped with mindfulness skills, they can:

  • Create calmer, more inclusive classrooms.
  • Support students in regulating emotions and staying engaged.
  • Reduce their own burnout and model resilience for children.

How You Can Help

  • Adopt one or a few SPED teachers with your family, coworkers, friends, neighbors, etc.
  • Host a small community fundraiser to sponsor multiple teachers.
  • Encourage your workplace to support an entire school.
  • Share this campaign to amplify the ripple effect.

Why Movement-Based Mindfulness Works

Mindfulness isn’t about sitting still; it’s about being fully present, moment by moment; it is the key to making responsible decisions and having healthy relationships.

Niroga’s Dynamic Mindfulness (DMind) integrates mindful movement, breathing, and centering techniques. For over 20 years, Niroga has brought this approach to more than 1,000 schools, 25,000 educators, and 750,000 students, transforming learning environments and supporting both educators and children in becoming more resilient and compassionate.

Why Inclusion Matters
Children in Special Education represent a wide spectrum of needs:

  • Physical: Mobility, sensory, or health challenges.
  • Emotional: Anxiety, depression, or trauma.
  • Intellectual: Autism, dyslexia, or ADHD.
  • Social: Trust issues or histories of neglect and abuse.

When these children lack support, they face exclusion, isolation, and bullying.

Together, we can create a more inclusive, mindful, and compassionate education.
