Help Feed Jamaica: Hurricane Relief & Long-Term Community Support
Join us in helping Jamaica. We are seeking your support to fund an ongoing feeding programme in Jamaica, providing nutritious meals, medical assistance, and counselling to those who need it most.
Aftermath of Hurricane Melissa
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, Jamaica has been plunged into a national crisis. The parishes of Westmoreland, St Elizabeth, St James and Trelawny have been left almost unrecognisable, and many other areas of the island are facing catastrophic damage. Communities on the ground describe devastation beyond words. It is clear that recovery will require tremendous time, effort, and support. Thousands of families have been displaced. Many communities remain without electricity, clean water, or access to essential services. Food insecurity is rising daily, and circumstances are fragile.
Who we are
Alton Scott from Eden’s Valley Foods and Lily Adu are organising a scalable food project to support communities in Westmoreland. Working in partnership with Jamaican organisations, we have launched a vital humanitarian initiative to deliver essential relief supplies and provide hot meals to affected communities.
Humanitarian Response: Help for Jamaica
The “Help for Jamaica” donation drive, running in London from 11 November to 1 December 2025, invites local residents, organisations, and businesses to donate essential items. In collaboration with Mildmay Community Centre, we are sending a container of supplies in December, made possible almost entirely by the generosity of everyday people, with support from several organisations. When the supplies arrive in Jamaica, they will be distributed with care by our trusted partners Eden’s Valley Food and Northern Caribbean University, whose students are volunteering in the relief mission and earning study credits for their service.
Immediate Relief, Long-Term Impact
In the short term, your support will help us provide:
* Essential food, hygiene items, and daily necessities
* Hot meals for families who have lost everything
* Support for communities that are hardest to reach and least likely to receive other aid.
But this mission goes beyond temporary relief.
Building a Sustainable Feeding Programme
We are laying the foundation for a long-term, community powered feeding initiative that will continue nourishing and uplifting vulnerable Jamaicans beyond this disaster.
Longer term your contribution will help us:
* Feed 200 people per week under a community marquee that also offers medical and psychological support
* Provide home-delivered meals for elders, the housebound and the unwell
* Offer transport for those unable to reach the support tent
* Serve communities on the outskirts of Petersfield—areas impacted but not easily reached by other aid efforts
* Empower local residents and volunteers who are committed to rebuilding their communities
Protecting Jamaica’s Bees: A Critical Part of Recovery
Alongside supporting people, we are also stepping in to protect one of Jamaica’s most vital yet vulnerable populations: the bees. Hurricane Melissa has destroyed vast stretches of vegetation, leaving bees without flowers, food sources, or safe habitats. This has triggered an unprecedented crisis—beehives across affected parishes are starving, collapsing, or being abandoned. Without immediate intervention, Jamaica risks severe long-term impacts on pollination, local agriculture, and food security.
In response, we will be coordinating the rescue, relocation, and care of a large number of threatened beehives from areas where bees can no longer survive. These hives will be safely housed in a protected location, where we will feed, monitor, and rehabilitate the colonies until natural food sources return. By safeguarding these bees now, we are helping preserve biodiversity, protect farmers’ livelihoods, and ensure future harvests for communities already facing immense hardship.
Powered By the People
This initiative is driven by residents, volunteers, students, and grassroots organisations: People are stepping up in extraordinary ways during an extreme crisis. From cooking hot meals to sorting supplies and coordinating logistics, every action reflects what this effort is truly about:
