Hi, My name is Summer Han and I am creating a fundraiser for my friend Zubair Husam (zoo-bear Hoo-sam). I attend Penn State University and I got the honor to meet Zubair when I was locked out of my apartment with my roommate Lina Amro, one random night a few months ago. He worked as a locksmith in State College, Pa helping college students get into their apartments at any time of the day or night, working 24/7 around the clock. So when we called him late one night, he showed up to help us. We all got to talking and I have never met anyone so genuine and kind, with such a good heart. He has been working in State College for 39 years doing endless amounts of jobs, always working hard for what he has, and is loved by EVERYONE in the town. We exchanged numbers when he found out I was an artist and needed help with creating business cards for himself. Weeks go by and I get a call from him, finding out he couldn't pay me to help him and that honestly his life has been very hard.
A 69 year old Navy veteran, who found his way after leaving home at 15; Zubair has lived alone for a long time. His wife passed away in 2018 in Kenya while he was building a brand new home for them in Bellefonte, Pa. He now lives in that large home alone, on the brink of foreclosure, working hard everyday to support himself without help from anybody. He works so hard to survive and is so kind to the world, and yet he suffers so much. On October 16th of last year, Zubair Husam passed away. He was then revived by doctors and is fortunately still here today- he has even beaten cancer through holistic medicine. His name Zubair means, 'Strong, brave and wise' in Arabic and it could not be more fitting. However, his medical issues ever since have become a large problem as he has been laid off work and unemployment has denied him. One of his biggest and dire medical issues is his left foot. Blood clots have been forming in his feet and legs and left untreated, he will have to amputate. And he won't be able to work anymore. He doesn't have any family near him and help from them is not an option. His sister recently passed and he doesn't even have enough money to go to her funeral.
So, that very day he called me; I came to his house to help him create his business cards on a website. He is creating his very own business called Superior HandyMan Services, professional cleaning for apartments, houses, yards, lawns, etc. in the State College/Bellefonte area. It has taken him since the summer of 2021 to get his business started because no one would lend him a helping hand. Technology isn't his strong suit and after talking to a live person on the business card website and going to the library and asking as many people he could, no one helped him. We finally got the business card designed and ordered on Oct. 24, 2021, so we can now take the steps into getting his business professionally running. He also loves to garden! Ever since he was 12 years old he began growing vegetables and herbs. He would like to try and start up his herbal online shop. Zubair used to package herbs, natural ingredients and teas to Africa years ago and his business was fully FDA approved. He really just wants to bring love and good health to all people.
As someone who has also experienced tough times, if I didn't have family or friends to lean on, I don't know what I could have done. Zubair is alone. Dealing with his declining health, debt, and hardly any money to feed himself. And yet, he still has a smile on his face, laughing and always looking at the brighter things in life. The reason I have been so touched by Zubair, is truly his kind soul. It is rare to meet someone so pure, after going through so much of what our harsh world has done to him. He reminds me so much of my grandfather who passed away a month ago. And when I talk to him, it just feels so comforting and healing to have him. I could never leave him to go through all this alone. Sometimes someone with such a big heart has so much to give and forgets that they need to be taken care of too. My roommate and I, want to do as much as we can for Zubair. That night while I was trying to order his business cards, he asked me, "What is love?" I pause, he says, "Love is an action. It doesn't matter if you say you love someone or you think you love someone. Love isn't an emotion. It's an action. Giving to people is how we spread love and we show our love. I'll never forget what my wife taught me about what love truly is." He calls me his adopted grandbaby and I see him as grandpa Zubair. He is one of the greatest people I have gotten to know in my life; and I want everyone to appreciate and help a man who is beyond too good for this world. Your donations would mean so much and we are so grateful to you. Zubair Husam is the type of guy to go "eh life goes on, all I need to do is work hard and be a good person" and he always fulfills his word. Please help Zubair anyway you can and thank you for hearing out his story.
(His late wife in white *He spoke about her so warm heartedly, telling me how soft spoken and sweet she was. Never even cursed a bad word, except one time that made Zubair laugh from shock! She was a good woman with a heart that matched Zubair's. The way Zubair would speak about her is like she is the most precious thing in the world. He misses her dearly and with his heavy heart he always smiles at the thought of her.)
