Please Help Support Zion Going and His Family

We are reaching out to our family, friends, and community to ask for support for Zion Going and his young family during an incredibly difficult and unexpected time.

Zion is a loving husband and devoted father to three beautiful children, aged 6, 4 and just 10 months old. He is a hardworking dad who has always worked hard to provide for and care for his family.

Sadly, their lives have been turned upside down after Zion was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).

Zion’s GBS began after what appeared to be a viral infection, similar to the flu. His condition progressed extremely quickly, and he has now been in hospital since the 2nd of August 2026. At present, Zion’s entire body is paralysed.

For his wife and their three young children, this has been absolutely heartbreaking. Their children are having to watch their dad go through something none of them could ever have imagined, while his wife is trying to hold everything together and be there for their babies.

Zion’s career and livelihood have been built around playing rugby. Rugby is not simply his job — it has been a huge part of his life. It is something he loves and something that has allowed him to provide for his family.

Now, because of GBS and the paralysis it has caused, Zion cannot play rugby.

At this point, we don’t know when, or even what his eventual ability to return to rugby will look like. The doctors have explained that recovery from Guillain-Barré is different for everyone. It can take months or even years, and every person’s journey is different.

This means Zion has suddenly lost the ability to do the work that has supported his family, at a time when he needs to focus entirely on getting his body moving again.

His wife will be by his side throughout this journey, caring for Zion and supporting him through his treatment, rehabilitation and recovery, while also caring for their three young children. It is going to be an enormous physical, emotional and financial challenge for their family.

The funds raised will help support Zion and his family with their everyday living expenses and the financial strain that comes with Zion being unable to work, while allowing his wife to focus on caring for him and their three children without having to carry the entire financial burden alone.

This family never expected to find themselves in a position where they would need to ask others for help. But sometimes life changes in ways we never see coming, and right now they need their community behind them.
