On January 3rd, our sister Griselda, affectionately known as Zeldi, woke up in an overwhelming amount of pain and suddenly could not walk. She was transported by ambulance to Sutter Hospital, where she remained in the emergency room until January 13th. At that point, with no clear timeline for recovery, she was transferred to Arbol Nursing Care Facility in Santa Rosa. She is currently there, working tirelessly through occupational and physical therapy in hopes of walking again.
Zeldi is a devoted single mother to her son, Jose, who just turned 17 on January 10th. As she works toward recovery, our family has stepped in to support Jose and maintain as much normalcy as possible during this uncertain time. While we are doing our best to care for him as his mom focuses on healing, being separated from her only child has been incredibly hard for both of them.
While we don’t yet know when Zeldi will be able to come home, we do know that when she does, her journey will be far from over. She will still require ongoing outpatient care and significant home modifications, including an electric medical bed and other equipment to help her navigate this new reality (one we truly hope is temporary). Unfortunately, her insurance only covers a portion of the nursing facility costs, and the financial strain continues to grow.
We are humbly asking for support to help ease this burden. All funds raised will go directly toward Zeldi’s monthly bills, medical and nursing care expenses, necessary home accommodations, and supporting Jose during this incredibly uncertain time.
If you are unable to donate, we completely understand and would be so grateful if you could keep Zeldi in your prayers and share this GoFundMe with your friends and family. Our greatest hope is for Zeldi to come home soon and be reunited with her son, who needs his mother now more than ever.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, kindness, and support during this difficult chapter. It truly means more than words can express.
